A way to discard the stream buffer & catch stream up to real time?

For whatever various reasons, sometimes a temporary performance or internet problem on the broadcaster's end will result in the stream getting way behind on the broadcaster's end, and then staying behind. So far, the only way I know to fix it & catch back up, is to stop the stream & start it again. But that has a lot of heavyweight consequences, like the streaming platform thinking it's a new stream, stream notifications alerts being resent, etc.

Is there a lighterweight way to discard all of the unsent stream data, and immediately continue with the most recent, without having to restart the stream?
