Question / Help A usable HDMI to USB capture device

I need to insert song and Bible verses onto the stage video and bought a no-name adapter. I tried VLC and it shows the HDMI image OK but OBS won't find the device (called FDH-Webcamera). What is a known-to-work HDMI capture device for OBS?

Tried another adapter (MiraBox Video Capture). Just like the no-name brand, it works with VLC (shows as a video capture device) but OBS shows nothing but my SDI capture adapter. I saw Win10 installing the new connection. But OBS simply doesn't find any other video capture device.

There is a choice in OBS for a "VLC Video Source". Since VLC works, can it be connected to OBS?

Grasping at straws here...

OK, problem solved. Adding a source is two windows, one to name the source within a scene and a second window that pops up where one of the recognized sources can be selected and configured. The first window is confusing because it looks like the list of available sources.
