7900XTX Recording Performance

Hi

I’m recording 1440p/60. Works fine but the performance isn’t great. The 7900XTX is doing 200 fps in fortnite for example but it drops to 150 once I start Obs. Recoding to a fast ssd which is only used for this purpose.

My previous 3080ti has very little fps drop. Any ideas or have I chosen the wrong gpu. I just didn’t want to buy a 4090 but perhaps I should have.

nvidia has a separate porocessor for the encoding. AMD uses the same resources. That's why.
The 4090 has it's own horror stories.

Every streamer I know that owns a Radeon graphics card is unequivocally saying that they will never buy a Radeon again. I don't want to disappoint you, but if you want to use a video card for streaming and video recording, then you should have chosen NVIDIA. At least at NVIDIA, the video encoding process is more technologically advanced and works inside the video card itself, which significantly reduces the impact on FPS in games. I'm not an expert, but as far as I remember, Radeon still uses RAM for buffered frames.

I just use it for recording for my own reviews of my successes and mistakes. It helps me get better.

It’s just that I bouggg this card to push more frames and I’m not then happy to lose them just so I can record.

I have considered a 2 stream setup for recording purposes but there isn’t a valid capture card which does 1440p/240 pass through.
