Recently I started streaming Dark Souls 3 and soon other games to youtube to showcase some linux gaming
My first couple streams had serious issues with getting pixelated/blocky. My encoder settings
X264
4000kbps
720p30
Fast preset
High Profile
Film Tune
Deblock 1:2
I spent hours trying to tune these settings. I was under the impression that optimal quality for my stream would be 30fps @ highest bitrate I could manage but no matter what I did same results, heavy blocking/pixelation. I was dropping frames, etc. OBS said everything was peachy as did YouTube.
So finally I decided to give 60fps a try and BAM, blocking was substantially reduced and the stream looks great with only changing FPS. This goes against everything ive been able to research regarding stream quality.
With context out of the way, why would 60fps produce substantially better results at the same settings? AFAIK this doesn't make sense.
