Question / Help 60 fps playback looks choppy

Hi everyone,

So I have noticed this for awhile, since I started using OBS to record 8 months ago. But I notice that when recording at 60 fps in OBS Multiplatform/Studio the video is rather choppy for 60fps. At moments it looks 60fps but then seems to drop or retain imperfect FPS.

I chalked this up to my harddrive not being able to keep up, but I am pretty sure thats not the case.

Recording with shadowplay, I get a near perfect 60fps where I don't see any frame drops (besides maybe a few). So I was so happy this week when I heard NVenc was now available on OBS Studio. I figured this would solve my 60 fps choppy look because it uses the same encoder as shadowplay does.

I was wrong. I recorded Nvenc at 30k bitrate, and I am still getting choppy frames. I have a link to a random video I am using to test this issue and find out what is wrong. I will post that if you request it.

But overall I really do not know what the problem is with recording 60fps in OBS. I have tried multiple things and I don't know what else I could try. I was even more confused the problem continued with the NVenc. I am getting 100+ fps in the games I am recording, so it isn't as if I am recording below 60fps or dropping frames.

I hope if anyone else has this problem, they knew how to fix it, or what could cause it. So thank you in advance if you know a way.

Here is my Log.

Going simple output mode or low CPU use isn't fixing the issue at all.

My PC is more than powerful enough to record a 720p60fps game. OBS recorded videos just 'slows' or microstutters for half a second in some intervals of the videos. My logs show zero frame skips or drops. I have used Dxtory's Lagarith, MagicYUV, x264vfw (crf 12) codecs, Action Mirillis, Shadowplay, Bandicam's Nvenc/CPU H264 codec, and even further pushed them to 1080p60fps. They could all record fine without the microstutters. It's just something about OBS I can't put my finger on the issue.

So far, I avoid using OBS unless it's a 30fps recording. Still hopeful for a fix on day, though. I like the low overhead of OBS.

it looks exactly the same for me. nvenc seems to stutter in recording quite regularly like on some interval and cause fps frops in game. zero problems with shadowplay tho.
qiuck sync recording in obs works great also with same performance as shadowplay

just recorded some bf4 with obs nvenc and it worked great and smooth. stutters happened to me in Dark Souls 3 as it was the only game i played lately. maybe its just game specific then, considering ds3 crashes and bad performance stories. but why only for nvenc when QS works well in ds3?
