6 years and still no PAUSE BUTTON

So its been 6 LONG YEARS that people have been asking over and over and over for the pause while recording feature but still here we are with no such feature. There's been lots of useless banter and excuses why post video editing is the way to go, but its pretty obvious that people want this feature.

So I ask now, in 2019 (yeah that' almost 2 decades since Y2K) WHY CANT WE GET THIS FEATURE?

As you can see on the ideas page, this has been voted for quite a lot, and there's an explanation from Jim talking about the technical side of actually making this happen.

TL;DR: It's complicated, but there are plans to do it.

OBS is great, but I'll still never use it in my classroom, studio, or home for the lack of this very simple feature. It's a shame when good projects like this lose out on bigger markets/audiences/users because they are unable to provide what people need.

Not sure what OBS is losing out on here, the only application similar to OBS that has a pause feature is Xsplit, which is paid.

Incorrect. Bandicam has this feature and has for quite some time.
Is there a reason 6 years after dozens of requests for this feature have been placed that the OBS team cant fulfill the requests?

Bandicam is not similar software to OBS, it cannot stream and that is what OBS was primarily created for. And Bandicam is also paid software with a team of devs, OBS is not.
Read the comment by Jim on the ideas page that was linked earlier for the reason.

Bandicam is quite similar in that it is used to capture video feeds, which I'm pretty sure is one of the main features people use. In any case we could both sit here and argue for days,. There's no point,.I guess we just wait another 6 years.

Yes, the ability to pause recordings will happen, and it will take less than 6 years to do so.

I am new to video and recording, I went through the install starting playing around with features. Sadly I don't want to waste time carving, splitting, splicing video to get my desired result. When the pause feature is included I will switch and recommend OBS, until then I will tell people to use Xsplit - the free version does enough. Hopefully soon we will have it, I will be monitoring the forums hoping for good news. )
