Question / Help 35 minute video recording has only 7 frames

I've used OBS and it worked OK before. I know basic details like "don't save as .mp4", etc. but recently I attempted to record a video for a speedpaint and the result is a laggy beginning (I'm used to that), followed by 7 frames. Across the entire video. 2 of them last 10 minutes.

The studio was pretty responsive and absolutely nothing was lagging, so I didn't notice this is what happened until after I spent 2 hours rendering a sped up version.

I can't read log files that well, but apparently 99% of the framerate dropped.

Just to make doubly sure, if you run the game in an intensive scene, then alt-tab while OBS is still recording, does the framerate in the recording look normal (i.e, at the same framerate you get in-game)? If so, I've the same issue; OBS worked just fine before, but recently on Windows 10, OBS is completely borked.

It's not a GPU issue, otherwise, the recording would still only show a single frame when alt-tabbed. That doesn't happen, alt-tabbing causes OBS to record the game fabulously. But when you alt-tab back in, OBS suddenly uses 50-60% of the GPU, fighting the game for the resources and forever losing.

I've already said that it's for a speedpaint, not a game. There is no "framerate", its just an art program. I have 2 monitors, OBS constantly displays a perfectly normal reflection of the screen with no lagging, computer wasn't lagging, everything ran perfectly fine with zero issue. The video just didn't render any frames.

The art software I was using wasn't using up much resources, either. I've actually used OBS to record 1hour of footage of me drawing without issue before.

Not exactly sure. As you pointed out, both of the times you recorded with OBS it dropped 99.9% of the frames.

Have you changed anything from the last time you recorded? If you haven't, try upping your h.264 preset to something faster.

Well
1. I went from window recording to screen recording; I was trying to show my art process, which needed to show menus, which OBS doesn't pick up.
2. I got a screen tablet that's a lot bigger than my monitor, and is set to 150% zoom; I had to adjust the DPI to fix the cursor losing alignment, but I don't remember what it is I did.
