Question / Help 2 scenes, 2 sources, same webcam

Hello!

I'm trying to setup a facecam with a Microsoft Livecam. My setup is as follows:
- scene 1: full screen facecam + source 1: Microsoft Livecam full screen
- scene 2: image / screen with facecam insert + source 2: Microsoft Livecam with crop filter

I am not able to have both scenes working: the video image freezes on one or the other and I can never have both at the same time.

If I use the same source for the two scenes, then my video image is either cropped or too large.

Is there a way to setup two sources with the same webcam?
If not, is there a way to apply a crop filter on one scene and not on the other?

make a scene only with your facecam (fullscreen). call it facecam_scene now you can use your facecam_scene in other scenes and resize/crop them.
also you can make new scenes containing facecame_scene and put some filter on them (eg facecam_bw containing facecam_scene and put a black and white filter on facecam_bw).

using scenes as sources is really one of the best features :) i really love it

Oh This is Beautiful Man!! I've been trying to figure this out for hours. LOL.
You can only use most video devices (webcams, capture cards) in one program at a time. Each Video Capture Device source in OBS counts as a separate 'program', so if you have two VCD sources (instead of copies of just the one) the cam will freeze or blank when the second VCD source tries to activate it, while it's already active by the first one. You just need to 'Add Existing', not 'Add New'.

Since 2017 (the previous post on this very, very dead thread), Groups have also been added to OBS Studio. There's no need to make a full Scene just to have custom filters on the camera in just one scene. Just add it to a Group on its own, and add the per-scene filters to the Group instead. Convenient!
