It's important to use 10.8.5+ due to certain capture features as well as OpenGL version support. If you're able, get 10.9 for free from Apple. If your computer cannot run 10.9 at all, it typically means that your computer is 7+ years old, and I would not recommend trying to live encode with it. Upgrade the computer instead, in my humble opinion.
