Question / Help Concerning Live Gamer Portable

Hey guys, so I just received my LGP (Live Gamer Portable) today and I have everything hooked up. Tested it with OBS first but all I got was a red screen, but when I got on Xsplit my desktop was actually being captured. I was wondering when would the LGP be compatible with OBS? :)

Thanks!

Yes I also just received my LGP today and got the same problem! Hopefully the devs will see this and fix the problem. Just going to keep the thread active until they see it.

Sorry for missing this thread.
As with all other USB 2.0 devices that support HD resolutions, the AVerMedia Live Gamer Portable outputs h.264-encoded video in order to fit the data through the limited bandwidth of USB 2.0.

Cards that output compressed video are currently not supported, and while it is planned, I can't really give you an ETA for when such support will be available. For the moment, you will have to use some sort of software capture (monitor capture in Windows 8, monitor/window capture in Windows 7 with Aero disabled) with Recenter or something similar running and displaying the output from the card.

They appear to think the crossbar support in the upcoming version will fix the problem, sadly this isn't true. The device won't be supported until it is specifically made to work (By way of decoding it's output) which is tedious, and may take awhile.

Well I just hope it won't take them as long, I don't wanna switch to another program cause OBS is just too great!

Even better would be if they unlocked MJPEG support in the drivers, as both the Live Gamer HD and the Live Gamer Portable support MJPEG which is much higher quality and lower latency than H.264. Not to mention MJPEG works with OBS right out of the box.

Sadly though, the functionality appears to be password-protected (!!):

Would be nice if an AVerMedia rep could comment on this.

Is there any news regarding this? I'd like to get the AVerMedia Live Gamer Portable Capture Device discussed here but I only use OBS for streaming, and I don't want to get it if it isn't supported yet.

You can get a LGP (only 1 at this time, I own 2 and only 1 works with OBS at a time at this point) to work with OBS through Avermedia's Stream Engine program. It will show up under OBS as "stream engine" and the program has to be running in tandem with OBS. It sucks at this point but at least it works. I talked to a USA Avermedia developer on ... I think Wednesday ... in any event he's going to check out the issue with the lack of multiple LGP support as theoretically the drivers will support up to 8 Live Gamer Portable devices.

Wow, that's certainly a thread necro. :p The Live Gamer Portable has been supported for quite some time. Download and install the latest drivers/software/firmware for the LGP here, including Stream Engine. Run Stream Engine and configure it for the type of output you'd like to send to OBS. Then launch the 32-bit version of OBS and add Stream Engine as a video capture device source.
