What are the benefits of these settings?

I know that the lower you go, the less stress you put on your CPU. But I am under the impression that things can get a little more choppy however, the Quality of the video is also increased due to less pixels spreaded across the actual image?

From personal experience, lower framerates increase overall quality of the output. Which makes sense, given the fact there is a finite amount of bandwidth involved in streaming. So, as a crude rule of thumb you could argue than 30 FPS allows for twice the bandwidth per frame from 60 FPS. It's not literal like that but just to illustrate.

However, certain games really do not capture well at all at lower FPS. High motion games really do need high capture framerates. Not only because capturing them at lower framerates may look stuttery but also because x264 can reference future frames as well and accomplish better compression/quality using those future frames.

Personally I found 48 FPS to really be a very nice middleground for most scenarios. Most things I capture look just fine in 48 FPS, both as far as quality as well as smoothness is concerned.

Having streamed at 30, 45, 48, and 60 FPS in Planetside 2, a fast-action FPS, with my 3000 CBR setting, I settled on 45 FPS. Even when my input was 60 FPS, it looked notably smoother than 30 FPS on Twitch. With regards to Muf's comment, I don't actually think stuttering is an issue when you're dropping 1 frame out of 4 (45 FPS) or 1 frame out of 5 (48 FPS) compared to 1 frame out of 2 (30 FPS). Certainly not in comparison to the benefit of a smoother stream. As an aside, 40 FPS (dropping 1 frame out of 3) should also be mentioned as a viable option.

The image quality is reduced vs. 30 FPS at 45, 48 or especially 60. 60 looked markedly worse. I chose 45 FPS as a good compromise between the need for high frame rate for fast action, and image quality given the 3000 CBR restriction. If I could stream at a higher bitrate, I would certainly go 60 FPS, but I can't.

As always, everyone's situation is different. Try everything. Experiment and make up your own mind.

Was just curious, still can't find a way to get my Stream as Crystal clear and crisp as others that I see. My BF3 is pretty damn crisp but DayZ for ARMA 2 is just horrible. Blacklight Retribution is clear but a little fuzzy.

Just confused is all haha.
