I have been using OBS, lovely software by the way, for over 6 months streaming happily.

I have recently been streaming War Thunder http://warthunder.com/en/ with great results (as far as quality, reliability and performance) until the latest patch (1.29.50).

Ever since that patch OBS no longer lists War Thunder in the dropdown menu of the Game Capture source properties menu. The only way I can capture the game is playing in Windowed/Fullscreen Windowed and using software capture which is pretty terrible on performance.

I have uninstalled & reinstalled OBS (0.472b) a few times. I've tried using the latest "Experimental" version of OBS (0.48.016b). Found a similar problem here:
http://obsproject.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=2152&p=12384&hilit=Game+not+in+List#p12384
but the solutions found on that thread did not work for me at all.

Any and all help would be appreciated!

I'm guessing War Thunder added an anti-hacking thing that prevents OBS from hooking the game capture. A lot of free/MMO type games do this.

Yeah, I just tried this out and got the same thing. This game doesn't use any anti-hacking programs. I think they updated their game engine in such a way that made game capture not work anymore. I had to use monitor capture playing in fullscreen windowed.

Even window capture with this game was broken. It only captured one frame of the game and it froze, switching to monitor capture updated the image .This has been the only game to do that with window capture for me. As usual Dxtory does still work if you can deal with the performance hit.

You could try the latest test build and use the game capture hotkey and see if that works better

Doing a quick test using test build 17 gave the same error that games with hackshield give.

"Warning -- GraphicsCaptureSource::BeginScene: OpenProcess failed, GetLastError = 5"

All other games are still fine if they have worked previously.

Clearly, for whatever reason, OBS no longer recognizes War Thunder. I have experienced the same issue. I streamed just last week, and now OBS doesn't recognize War Thunder. While I understand this might not really be exclusively an OBS issue (and by the way, Gaijin's other titles, i.e. Star Conflict, still work fine), I'm guessing maybe you might take interest in the matter? Your resolution of "I'm guessing War Thunder added an anti-hacking thing blah blah blah" is fine and all, but maybe you might want to contact them and help us figure out how we, your users, might be able to continue using your software in this regard???

Love,
Jason.

You'll have to talk to the War Thunder devs to allow OBS to hook into the graphics to capture the game.

Otherwise you'll need to run the game in Windowed/Borderless mode and capture with Window Capture (Or monitor capture, as long as Aero is disabled). Or use a capture card.

Jason - I unfortunately have no clue what to do. Listen, I realize you're frustrated, we don't mean to cause you frustration, but this is just something that happens. I don't know of a proper workaround or anything. Having an application deny access to other applications feels like it something that can be worked around, but I don't know what to do at the moment. I don't always have all the answers.

War Thunder is the program at fault here - as a user of War Thunder you should be asking the developers of War Thunder to allow you be able to use streaming software like OBS with their game. It's a little unreasonable to expect the few developers working on OBS to ensure compatibility with every program and game out there, especially when the problem is not caused by anything in OBS.

Re: Game Capture no longer lists "War Thunder" post gamepatc

Hey guys. I apologize for sounding ungrateful in my post on this thread. I re-read what I said again, and I could have worded it better. Let me say that I do indeed appreciate what you developers have done with your OBS project. I'm not sure how much weight my voice would carry bringing it up to Gaijin, and thought maybe a request coming from the OBS team would be more quickly (if at all) addressable by Gaijin.

And, just to be honest, yeah I am a little upset. But take this more as a compliment to you, when I say that I found OBS after much frustration using the other popular streaming apps (Xsplit, Dxtory, etc.). Those apps, at least for me, have turd performance, drop my game framerate, and in some games, cause a ton of lag. OBS did none of this for me. Once I understood (big props to you, the community as well here) how to tune my OBS settings, I had wonderful streaming quality with barely any effect on the game. Mind you, even with my pretty decent PC specs, I wouldn't expect so many problems with the other programs, but I had them. OBS is the best, and it's all I care to use. I just couldn't understand why the other streaming apps were still able to stream War Thunder just fine, and only my precious OBS couldn't detect the game anymore.

So with that, please accept my apology, and my deepest respect and regard to you the developers, and you the community. Needless to say, I hope I'm able to stream my War Thunder again soon. In the meantime, do keep up the outstanding job, and you have my continued moral support. And financial as well, hoping I get hired for a job I recently interviewed for ;)

Warm Regards,
Jason

Re: Game Capture no longer lists "War Thunder" post gamepatc

I understand your frustration, but it's based upon misunderstanding. You don't know what it's like on the developer end. At any given point in time I have countless issues I have to deal with. Devices issues (OBS isn't exactly great with device support), I have to fix the directshow code so it doesn't stall the main thread, then there's the video playing plugin I've been totally neglecting which countless people have been constantly been begging me to work on (who can't even use the app until it's implemented, yet I still have to put it off), then there's crashes, bugs, that god forsaken x264 bug which I can't seem to track down, game capture issues like the one you're having, and countless other things constantly going on.

Every single person wants me to do something, wants me to say, "don't worry, I'll get your issue fixed/feature added right away", and I simply cannot do that for everyone. It's made by real human beings and is subject to human flaws.

So before you let out your emotion, know that the emotion you use here is being used upon an already beaten and worn person. It almost feels numb at this point.

Re: Game Capture no longer lists "War Thunder" post gamepatc

Jim, thank you for that further insight. And I feel even a bit worse now, that my initial comments came across as harsh as they did. And I know that even coming here to type in the forums cost you your time. I am also a developer (although more on the business application side of things rather than device-oriented software such as OBS), and so I can completely respect where you are. I can certainly imagine how people being upset at something you have and continue to work so hard on, and for a "free" product, can be such a downer and discouragement to continue.

I'm haven't experienced any of those bugs you mentioned (or haven't recognized when any of them materialized in my usage of OBS), but wow, you've really got your plate full. I'm sorry I didn't realize OBS was created by so few. It's such an Xsplit-killer in my opinion (and all the others)... It's now clear to me the sacrifices you've made and are continually making to make this software for people like me.

Again, so much thanks, and so much apologies from me, Jim. I know what it's like to write software, and it seems like there are users who don't seem to appreciate. Although in my case it's usually a bit different, in that A. my customers are internal business departments, and B. I'm not writing free software in a market of paid-software-dominance. I didn't realize the pressures you are under as such a small development staff, and I should have worded my frustrations better.

For all those big bugs you've mentioned, take heart to know that, in large, OBS is unopposed in awesomeness. Again to praise your work, I haven't experienced those bugs to my knowledge. And I understand that those types of bugs and issues are certainly more important and a higher priority than a renegade EXE of a game in beta which can't hook in. I wish you the best in the continued work you are doing on the project. And I'm certainly going to make a donation soon.

This should be fixed in the latest test build. Feedback would be much appreciated.

Yes, that fixed it! War Thunder once again appears in the Game capture's detected sources, and successfully shows the feed in Preview mode. Thank you guys so much. I'm relieved Mr. NastyCritterBug didn't get away!

I'm not sure which other games were affected by the bug, so I can only confirm success for War Thunder. Thank you all again a bleen bajillion times over!

Hey I have a new problem where it recognizes the game, it just doesn't record the visuals. It records the game sound but the screen is just black. Any suggestions?
