Error: Could not create D3D10 device and swap chain. If you get this error, it's likely you probably use a GPU that is old, or that is unsupported.

hm, I really need to make it log the GPU -before- trying to initialize the device. What GPU are you using? Certain laptop GPUs, as well as integrated motherboard GPUs currently may not work.

It should work on most laptops already. It just depends on the GPU your laptop uses. Intel integrated GPUs are known to have problems right now. Most of the standard nvidia/AMD GPUs should work fine, depending on what features they support.

Intel is the biggest problem right now, not only do the fact that they cut out major important features, but also because their drivers are also quite bad, and outright crash under certain circumstances.

I have the same issue with my laptop Lenovo Y570 with nvidia geforce gt 555m.. all drivers are up-to-date... :(

Hey, could you guys try a version for me? This is just the exe file, so please replace yours with this. I'd like to see if this has any affect on your ability to run the app.

[edit - nevermind, made this default/optional in 0.41a]

If you used the installer, get the version that corresponds to the version of windows you use (32bit or 64bit)

If you're using a 5xx series or 6xx series mobile GPU from nvidia, chances are you have Optimus which auto-switches between the Intel GPU and the nvidia GPU. If Optimus doesn't detect OBS as a "game" it will have it use the Intel GPU instead of the nvidia, causing the problems you describe. Try setting a manual rule to force OBS to run on your nvidia GPU, and see if that fixes things. I think Jim as a developer may also be able to submit OBS to the Optimus application database so that it can be correctly auto-detected in the future.

THANK YOU!

I had spent hours updating everything and reading forums to solve that problem until I found that post.
