Hello there.

This problem started yesterday night and it happened today again:
My problem is that I'm dropping over 20k frames in OBS. There's nothing wrong with my internet at all.

I livestreamed earlier today as well and that worked just fine. No dropped frames in 3h at all.
I had this problem last night as well, around this time.

Any ideas?
If it matters I use Win 8 Pro

There is no reason why OBS would drop frames during certain periods of time in a day. It is reasonably safe to assume the problem isn't OBS, it's Twitch. Particularly given the massive number of people experiencing a lot of issues with Twitch lately. I have gone so far as to resort using third party tools just to be able watch Twitch streams without them lagging like a madman on me.

All you could consider doing... is dropping the bitrate (by a good amount) to compensate for Twitch's issues as of late.

Yeah, kinda guessed it was because of twitch. Perhaps the LoL tourny thingy?
But for that matter; It did work perfectly earlier today between 11-14 and now in the evening it did not.
Same as yesterday.

So it must be because overload at twitch.

Very interesting. I was just about to create a topic on the very same thing. I livestreamed Saint's Row yesterday and I dropped 0% frames according to OBS. No problems whatsoever.

Today I suddenly get like 30K dropped frames while streaming and nothing I do seems to have any effect on it. It just keeps dropping.

The only thing I can possibly think of is that Twitch might be severely overloaded?

If you changed nothing and you have no reason to suspect an issue with your own Internet connection then a very safe conclusion would indeed be congestion on Twitch's end.

I changed nothing from yesterdays streaming session and I did 2 speed tests which were both fine.. I'm guessing Saturday is just a busy day overall for Twitch. Too bad.

Hi,

Have you checked your connection "jitter" to twitch? My internet speeds are really good, but sometimes i can start a stream its really bad...

Speedtests are fine
Browsing is fine
downloading is fine

However, when I look at the twitch server lists using http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/viewmes ... _id=326034 will show a really high jitter...

So i need to power off all my routers and turn them back on.... this solves it :)

Try disabling CFR, there's currently a bug with it that can cause duplicated frames to spiral out of control, thus causing more frames to have be sent, backing up your connection.

Once again today I streamed fine in the middle of the day and when the clock went over 18:00 I started to drop frames again.

Fine until 18:00(swedish time/paris time)

Then that most decidedly is Twitch. There really is no code in OBS that would cause it to drop frames based on what time it is. All you could consider doing is dropping the bitrate, heavily. I had the very same problem just now, as I was testing this new full color range thing. I was streaming at 3000 Kbps. Dropping around 80% of my frames. Dropped the bitrate all the way down to 1500 Kbps and it was mostly smooth.

Did a quick confirmation just to make sure the problem was not on my end. Which it obviously wasn't.

It's not my internet.
It's ONLY happening in the nights so It's def from twitch side.

Streamed 3h earlier today > No problem
Streamed now for about 1h fine and suddenly 22k dropped frames.

My ISP is called Cantab.
Four nights in a row is not coincidence.

Exactly the same problem here.

Come early evening (6.00pm GMT onwards) I get massive dropped frame rates.

Virgin Media here.

Everything was fine until 2 days ago.

I would ask your ISP about traffic management. A couple of my friends (UK, Netherlands) cant stream at certain times due to restrictions from their internet provider. I am in the UK and its the same here:

My traffic management:

11am to 11pm Weekends
4pm to 11pm Weekdays

If I exceed my allowance, they limit my speed. Speedtest.net still shows the fullspeed.

Its worth checking with cantab if they impose any traffic management.

As said, It started 4 days ago and they always make announcements about those kind of things

You can always check with ShaperProbe to see if your connection is getting throttled. http://www.cc.gatech.edu/~partha/diffpr ... probe.html

DiffProbe release. January 2012. Build 1008.
Shaper Detection Module.

Connected to server 213.244.128.168.

Estimating capacity:
Upstream: 11036 Kbps.
Downstream: 96032 Kbps.

The measurement will take upto 2.5 minutes. Please wait.

Checking for traffic shapers:

Upstream: No shaper detected.
Median received rate: 10826 Kbps.

Downstream: No shaper detected.
Median received rate: 92773 Kbps.

Let us all be realistic about this for a second; the one common factor between everyone in Europe having issues is... Twitch. We have seen quite a number of Europeans (all from varying countries, using varying ISPs) come in the past few days experiencing issues.

In line with Occam's Razor I pose that it is exceedingly unlikely that all of Europe somehow is being confronted with traffic shaping, line interference and/or other possible explanations for local disturbances. It is far simpler to simply conclude that Twitch as of this moment has become all but unusable to large portions of Europe, particularly during Europe's evening hours.

So, let's stop looking for local explanations and just accept the fact this is up to Twitch to solve.

There are some actions you can take however. In experimenting a bit I have found that limiting your upload to under 2000 Kbps and using hilalpro's guide to make the bitrate more strict ( http://obsproject.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=18&t=4516 ) may alleviate some of the problems. Although no guarantees there either.

I tweeted Twitch Support:

@TwitchTVSupport Four nights in a row I'm dropping frames in OBS. I can stream fine mid days. This happens around +18:00 paris time.

Twitch Support ‏@TwitchTVSupport 1h
@h1F5gaming Sounds like your ISP has more traffic at night (which is normal), thus less bandwidth to offer you for casting.

h1F5 gaming ‏@h1F5gaming 1h
@TwitchTVSupport It's not from my end. Check this thread: http://obsproject.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=6935 … It's not only me.- It started FOUR nights ago.

Twitch Support ‏@TwitchTVSupport 59m
@h1F5gaming And from the OBS moderator responses, seems like a known, non-Twitch issue. Did you read those?

h1F5 gaming ‏@h1F5gaming 57m
@TwitchTVSupport I did, yes. But why is it only happening in the evenings then? If that's the problem it should happen mid days as well

Twitch Support ‏@TwitchTVSupport 53m
@h1F5gaming In the evenings, there are far more users using your ISPs resources. ISPs oversell bandwidth all the time. Thus less QoS.

h1F5 gaming ‏@h1F5gaming 52m
@TwitchTVSupport This is bullcrap. It started FOUR nights ago and I really doubt my ISP got 28139081290839012830 new customers in that time.

The same reasoning applies to it actually being Twitch, since there are a lot more people using Twitch during the evenings (during the day people are at work, at school, etc, etc, etc, etc.). As I stated, Occam's Razor... the one common factor between all the Europeans we have seen these past few days experiencing issues is Twitch. Not some magical other factor.

Personally, I am completely unable to even watch a stream without it stuttering, during the evenings. And, guess what... if I test my connection during those hours it manages a sustained speed of OVER 100% of what I am actually paying for. So, no, Twitch... ;)
