Virtual Camera not showing as available to choose in Meet & Zoom

Hello.

As the title says, other apps cannot see OBS virtual cam. Running Ubuntu 20.04. Installed OBS 29.1.3 from official repo. OBS picks up webcam source fine. Tried a few fixes:
  • downgraded to 28.1.2 as per another post in this forum
  • uninstalled then reinstalled V4L2loopback-dkms; no error messages in terminal output. Rebooted just to make sure kernel modules loaded. Checked current kernel version is same as version into which V4L2loopback-dkms was installed - fine.
  • checked canvas and virtual cam resolutions matched
  • start virtual cam before opening browser and Google Meet, or Zoom
  • tried on Brave, Chrome, Firefox
  • Changed permissions of /bin/obs to read/write for owner-root and group-root
This seems to be a common problem, but reading around I haven't found a solution that works with my setup. Does anyone have any suggestions? How might I troubleshoot? Any logs I can pull up?
