Question / Help Video file won't open in any program

Hi,

I recently recorded some footage that was over 2 hours long. For some reason, this time I can't open it or edit it or do anything at all. I used over 5 different programs to open it and I still can't do it. The programs I've used are:

-Windows Media Player
-Windows Movie Maker
-Camtasia Studio
-VLC Media Player
-Avidemux
-Handbrake

None of these programs can open the file. Is there a way I can somehow recover it? I really need it. It is over 2GB meaning there is something there but it just won't open.

It was in .mp4 and OBS did not crash. I just pressed the key I use to stop recording and then checked the footage to see it wouldn't open.

I have the same exact problem and it was MP4 too, no it did not crash and it seems like it only happens during long stream sessions. For example, i have this 17 mins recording here and i can do w/e the frak i want with it. . . But the 4 hours one, forget about this.

Im having this same problem , day in , day out. I stream for upwards of 3+ hours each day @ 720p and sometimes do 6+ hours. I have found i have to keep reinstalling OBS and then it works for a few days and then does the same thing as before. OBS does not crash and its saved as mp4, Maybe try and save as mkv instead ?

I am using a Nvidia GFX card with Geforce 344.11 Driver dates 18/09/2014. I am now updating to Version 344.48 , dated 22/10/2014 to see if that solves it. I will repost back if that sorts out the problem.

Here is the file info of a properly working after a reinstall of OBS as per below and using x264 settings to encode:

Update 1:

Well i updated my GFX drivers and reinstalled OBS. I am using the 64 bit Version fyi. Done a 15 min test using x264 as encoding option instead of nvenc and it recorded and played faultlessly. I then Done a 4 hour Stream @ 3500kbps (Twitch) using NVENC for the encoding part and resulting recording was over 4.3GB.

VLC , WMP , MPC-HC refuse to open the file in question. No crashes or hangs when starting or ending encoding, everything start and ends correctly.

What do the Devs think ? I think something is possibly broken in NVENC or OBS for large file sizes and or headers written to video files improperly ?

as i think i might roll back to a older version to see if that fixes any problems. I will do that tommorrow as it`s late now where i am 02:45am.

Update2:

Went back to OBS 0.35b and its still the same as using 0.357b, The recording stops @ 2 hours automaticly for some reason, i`m guessing its a problem in the Encoding and or Saving of the video file while streaming ? Any advice ? I am now assuming that it`s a problem with the NVENC side of things , all be it a driver or a obs problem.
