Question / Help Resolution downscale

My current Resolution is set to the following:
base resolution 1920x1080
Resolution downscale: 1.50 1280x720

My question is, if I were to set my base resolution to 1280x720 and not downscale at all, would that reduce cpu usage?

Yes, it would. The game rendering in 1080p takes up more time than downscaling it to 720p does. However, I have noticed that it might actually end up looking worse. May I offer a secondary approach? Would you have any objections to playing whatever it is you're playing in a 1600x900 window instead?

I have found that 1600x900 downscaled by 1.25 to 720p using the Lanczos filter looks amazing and frees up quite a bit of CPU and GPU time in comparison to playing the game in 1080p.

Streaming native 720p actually looks worse than streaming a downscaled 900p (scaled down to 720p). Tried this myself. But, you can try.

Ultimately, the best answer is to just try it and judge for yourself what you think looks best. Quality perception is at least somewhat subjective.
