Question / Help Random crashing on startup of OBS Studio

General Snivy

As of late when starting up OBS Studio to start live streaming or to start recording something locally, OBS Studio crashes. This crash randomly occurs and it usually happens 5/10 times of starting up OBS Studio. This problem has been persisting for several weeks now, going on for about 1 month and I have not been able to figure out what is causing OBS Studio to randomly crash upon starting it up.

To give some background information, I am running Windows 10 Pro build 1809 and I have an Intel Core i7 4790 processor with 16 GB of DDR3 memory at 1600 MHz and an Nvidia GeForce GTX 980TI graphics card that is handling the encoding of my live streams and recordings. After OBS crashed again yesterday before starting yesterday's stream, I got a copy of the crash log that was copied to my clipboard and I pasted it onto a sticky note on my PC.

The most recent crash report is attached to this thread and after going through all of the crash reports, they are all the exact same except for the date and time for when each crash occurred. I've also made sure that OBS Studio is up to date and I've updated everything else such as my graphics driver and whatever updates I could install on my PC via Windows Update and updated all drivers for Elgato's capture devices, which are used for all of my live streams.

If anyone can help me figure out what's causing these crashes to occur, please do. I've also emailed Elgato's support team and they weren't able to help me with this matter since this problem only occurs with OBS Studio and Streamlabs OBS. Thank you.

This crash is caused (in part) due to Elgato's drivers. Follow these steps exactly:

1) Unplug your Elgato device (if USB)
2) Uninstall all Elgato software and drivers from Add/Remove Programs
3) Reboot your PC (Very important you do this before trying to install anything else)
4) Reinstall the Elgato software/drivers
5) Plug the Elgato card back in (if not already prompted to during the Elgato software installation)
