Hello guys, I am trying to stream World of Warcraft gameplay. The problem is, I lag too much, and my fps is shit lately. Here are my components.

22 download, 4 upload
AMD Athlon(tm) II X4 635 processor 2.9 GHz

My CPU usage is always at 100% usage when I stream, so I know thats not good.

When I stream, I average around 20 fps, however on OBS it says like 10 fps.

Do I need to get a new processor, and if so which? I'm not looking for something amazing, just something to get me by.

Do post a log of a live streaming session; they're stored in %appdata%\OBS\logs\ and timestamped to each cast. They're just textfiles, open it up in Notepad or whatever, and paste it here in between 'code' tags (to keep things neat/compact).

Also, run a 6MB test at http://testmy.net/upload which will test your constant throughput (important for livestreaming and game network communication) as opposed to your 'dead file' transfer speed, which is what Speedtest.net checks on, and your ISP advertises. So you might have a lot less throughput available than you think (causing the in-game lag too if you haven't left enough bandwidth over for it past your streaming bitrate).

These two should give us a good starting point to make recommendations on how to fix/improve things. :)

You're on a really old version of OBS. Make sure you update to the latest version, 0.522.

Also, don't use Monitor capture if you can avoid it. Use Window capture with Aero enabled or Game capture.

My fps seems to be good in game, however, I lag, a sort of choppy lag. Viewers say it is also choppy. Any suggestions?

Try enabling Aero and seeing if that helps at all.

That is an old GPU, so actually don't bother trying to use Game capture on it. Only try Window capture, and make sure Aero is enabled for it.

If that doesn't help at all, it might just be a case of your CPU being slow. Try downscaling it by at least 2x and change your x264 preset to superfast or ultrafast.

Window Capture with Aero enabled uses the GPU as well. I suspect you may have better results with Aero disabled, actually.

Ok so last night, I was streaming, after messing with my settings. The stream was good, no lag on my end, or on the stream. However, I had 100% CPU Usage, which I know can not be good for my CPU. After streaming for like 30 minutes, my computer turned off and wouldn't turn back on until I let it rest for a minute or two. I'm guessing that its my CPU just overheating from being at 100% usage. Is this a good assumption? Or, do you think it is something else. Here are the settings I used last night.

That CPU is clearly not great. I recommend downscaling by at least 2x but it will still be struggling.

Yeah it happened again today, streaming fine, then boom, computer just turns off. . .Sad thing is, I used to stream all the time perfectly, and have 100+ Fps. . . now when I stream, I barely have 30. I'm not sure whats gone wrong or what has changed. . .But something has :(

Shutting off like that is a pretty clear indicator of your CPU overheating. Clean out your case, dust off all your fans, maybe re-apply thermal paste if you know how. Next time you stream you need to watch your CPU temps.

Definitely keep an eye on your temps; sounds like an overheat and an emergency thermal shutdown to prevent the CPU from (literally!) melting and catching on fire. Which, even with the safety there, is still VERY bad to do, much less repeatedly.

Part of my standard streaming setup is to keep ASUS Probe (temps), Task Manager (performance tab to watch CPU load and memory usage), and GPU-Z (video card temp/load/volts/fan/etc info) right next to my clock widget and OBS on the second monitor. Can see at a glance if there are any issues occurring.

I'd second the clean-out though. Canned air, get all the dust out of the fans, case, heatsinks and so on. Check for fan operation. A lot of people will never clean their systems out, and it can REALLY affect temps, performance, and system longevity to blow out all the dust twice a year (more in dusty environments, or with poor airpath design like more exhaust fans than intake fans on the case).
