Question / Help Pixelation/OBS/Vegas/YouTube

Hello!

I have been trying to fix my issue with pixelation for a long time now, and I've tried 100 different things to make it work. The problem I am having is that I record with OBS, then edit said footage in sony vegas 14, after which I upload to youtube. The video gets 720p60 or 1080p60 (depending on what I choose), but the videos look far from that quality. When I look at the footage taken directly from OBS I don't really see the problem, and usually the same when looking at it after being rendered in sony vegas. However, once uploaded to youtube it looks really pixelated and blocky and it looks the same for the friends I've shown it to.

I've seen a lot of answers to threads posted that youtube does this *bad compression* and theres nothing to do, but that simply cannot be true since the rocket league videos I watch on youtube does not have pixelation. Obviously I can't get perfect match between raw footage and youtube video, but I'd just like to be able to post videos without them looking terrible..

My specs are:

GTX 1080
16GB RAM DDR3
i7 4770k
SSD Evo Samsung 128GB
*insert name* Hard Drive 1TB

* I dont really know the names of the rest but the PC is relatively balanced and should not be the issue *

Videos from OBS and from VEGAS are directly placed on my regular hard drive, not the SSD.

If anyone has a resolution for my issue I would be very grateful :)

Don't use CBR recording and don't save directly to mp4.

Okay, so which one should I use? There are 4 options available, CBR, VBR, CQP & something I translate to *Free of loss* or smth like that.

And if I dont save to mp4, should i use .mov then?

Maybe I should add that ive had the same issue when saving videos with shadowplay and then into vegas. - I thought maybe I needed to change something with the raw footage to make it easier for the youtube compression but idk tbh..

Level is too low, the parameter describes the maximum number of details.
Default for 720p is 3.1, but if set 4.0 or 4.2 you can you'll make better use of it parameters.

No.
MKV or FLV. If you need another format for editing, use file - remux recordings in the main OBS window.

Record using CQP and a CQP value of 14.

Set the level to AUTOMATIC.

I had this problem when I started out, and in my experience so far I've found that it can be game/colour settings dependent; in fact, I find it tends to be worse in games that are less static, so moving foliage in outdoor areas. For example, when I did a Stalker OGSE series, I believe I started off using the default values for CBR, and to me, that looks fine, though I did tweak and experiment as the series progressed. However, only the other day I tried recording part one of a new Stalker series with CQP (18), and it turned out poorer than expected.

For quite some time, I've been using CQP 0 (or 'lower' if the game is too demanding e.g. 1 - 17 or whatever) and I'm very happy with the quality. I understand MKV is better than MP4, though I use the latter at present and have no regrets. I may have to look into MKV, though...

As for the bit rate value in my current editor (Premiere Pro), I find that the lowest I like to use for my 1440p resolution is 30, though I am seriously considering upping it in the near future.

I recommend a channel called Gaming Careers. He covers lots of OBS related tutorials.


Oh, and I'm not absolutely certain this is 100% accurate, but don't use VBR for recording. You may end up with audio/video sync issues. That's what mainly happens these days when I try ShadowPlay anyway, and I believe that employs VBR.

Also, don't release your video until it 'really' has fully processed, not just when it's first available to be made public, e.g. 480p or something.
