Question / Help OBS Studio 0.15.1 Sound out and needs a restart to fix.

I have been using OBS for a while now and since the switch to studio I have had nothing but problems with audio being in sync. Sometimes it is in and at other times it is a little out or way off and I have to stop streaming / restart OBS and then restart streaming.

I work for BIIIIIIIG clients and it is getting to the point where I can no longer trust OBS to do the job.

Main Hardware:
-----------------------
Dustbin Mac Pro
Blackmagic Production Studio 4K
Blackmagic Intensity Extreme (thunderbolt)

Are you aware of these issues and are you planning on fixing anytime soon.

Can I get the old version again, I want stability over features.?

Just had another issue on a live stream, tinny distorted audio half way through the stream... this version of studio or the intensity extreme are an issue alone or together.

what will that do exactly, what impact will that have on CPU usage and the overall quality of the stream. I aim for the best quality available working with the clients I do.

It will be a minor hit to picture quality for a major reduction in cpu use with a likely side-effect of the sound not cutting out.

The sound did not cut out, it drifted out of sync or was out from the moment I hit start streaming, only stopping and starting the stream fixes it, it will then stay ion sync for ever or a few hrs.. CPU usage is not an issue as I never really went above 30% from memory.

I def dont want to sacrifice any quality in fact I would like to improve upon that as well as fix the sound, don't get me wrong it looks good but when you deal with devs and pr for publishers only the best will do.

You're already sacrificing quality because your system isn't quite enough to keep up. A slight drop in picture quality will be more acceptable than sound cutting out AND visible frame stutter (which is what you have now)

honestly, I respect your knowledge but I do not think my system is the issue, yes I may have some stutter (where did you spot indications of that) but I never had any issues on the non studio version on the same mac pro.

what settings would you recommend for the best possible quality with the hardware I have now and what part of my system is lacking.

I work with both youtube and twitch partnered streams so can ramp up the bit rate, hardware permitting.

thanks for trying to educate and help me btw. :P

yes I may have some stutter (where did you spot indications of that)

Down in the profiler section of your log.
14:14:19.794: obs_video_thread(16.6833 ms): min=10.036 ms, median=16.476 ms, max=269.834 ms, 24.51% within ±2% of 16.683 ms (43.3322% lower, 32.1578% higher)

60FPS basically requires over 90% lower than 16.667ms in order to not get stutter.

12:04:37.138: adding 42 milliseconds of audio buffering, total audio buffering is now 85 milliseconds
12:18:15.312: adding 21 milliseconds of audio buffering, total audio buffering is now 106 milliseconds
12:25:26.338: adding 42 milliseconds of audio buffering, total audio buffering is now 149 milliseconds
12:39:12.701: adding 42 milliseconds of audio buffering, total audio buffering is now 192 milliseconds
12:53:10.020: adding 42 milliseconds of audio buffering, total audio buffering is now 234 milliseconds
13:06:59.749: adding 21 milliseconds of audio buffering, total audio buffering is now 256 milliseconds
13:14:23.254: adding 42 milliseconds of audio buffering, total audio buffering is now 298 milliseconds
13:27:53.772: adding 42 milliseconds of audio buffering, total audio buffering is now 341 milliseconds
13:41:47.031: adding 21 milliseconds of audio buffering, total audio buffering is now 362 milliseconds
13:48:47.633: adding 42 milliseconds of audio buffering, total audio buffering is now 405 milliseconds
14:02:39.209: adding 21 milliseconds of audio buffering, total audio buffering is now 426 milliseconds
14:09:37.604: adding 42 milliseconds of audio buffering, total audio buffering is now 469 milliseconds
This indicates a slight system overload, normally scene buffering like this should not spike nor should it gradually increase

but I never had any issues on the non studio version on the same mac pro.
Strictly speaking, there is no "non-studio" version of OBS on mac. The old name for it was OBS Multiplaform BUT the codebase is still the same.

I work with both youtube and twitch partnered streams so can ramp up the bit rate, hardware permitting.
If you're using youtube, you can throw as much bitrate at the quality problem as you have internet connection to support. Twitch with partnership would require contacting their support for permission in order to go above 3500kbit.

You should probably go with the Fast preset to offset the difference in cpu need and then crank up the bitrate to the upper limits of what your connection is capable of for youtube. I don't know of a utility to check the connection to youtube's live streaming system, but http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/tech-support/478845-twitchtest-twitch-bandwidth-tester is available for twitch (prefer highest quality).

Definitely contact twitch support for any partnered accounts you work with in order to get higher bitrate limits on their side.

thanks for the information, much appreciated, luckily I have an email address for someone at youtube who deals with streaming, a publisher had him down at one of our events one day. : had to grab a card. nice fella.

luckily we have had no major issues the past year and a bit and we managed to get back the GBP 20K we spent on the hardware / cabling ect. couldn't have done it without OBS by far the best IMHO
