Hello,
I am a little bit super lost on what to do.
I have a ubuntu 16.04 laptop, with all the updates.
I just installed OBS.

I plugged in a new Magewell Pro Capture card.
I downloaded the Magewell drivers from their website, and installed.

Yet, once that is done.... What comes next?
Where do I confirm it's actually working?

I installed qv4l2 on this ubuntu machine, and the V4L2 Test Bench gui came up.
Yet under "Input" the only thing I have it "Camera 1", which is the small camera on top of the laptop's LCD.

Any advice on what to do next?

Thank you

I should specify:
The capture card I have is a Magewell USB Capture Plus...
Not an "internal card", as this is a laptop.
I make this clear-up because on my first post it's confusing as stated.

Checking that out now!
Thank you! (I didn't receive the thread-reply email).

EDIT: I did in fact receive the email. Everything working ok in the forum.

Hello,
I'm sorry yet... I am still at a loss as to what to do.
I open up the qv4l2 utility, yet the only "Input" I have is "Camera 1" on the laptop.

If I run: #lsusb
I do get a listing for:
Bus 001 Device 005: ID 2935:0004

This is a Magewell... yet I have no idea what to do next.
I mean... what ... what next?
Are there drivers?
Is there another utility to run?

If you can't get the built in v4l2 support working, you may be able to use guvcview and then use a Window Capture to record the screen. I've found the built in v4l2 support to be a little slow compared to guvcview. You should also be able to use VLC to display the output from the magwell, and then use a window capture.

Unfortunately I don't have a Magwell to test with to help further.

Well,
I moved the USB Magewell from my laptop, to my workstation... and it worked immediately (after installing the Magewell linux drivers).

So, it's probably something to do with my laptop.

Sorry for the whole mess... it's just that I was pretty much lost as to what to do.

Thank you David Carver!

Ok... now I am working with my laptop.
In the workstation, everything works perfectly.
Yet on the laptop, qv4l2 doesn't have an "input" for the Magewell USB.

I thought that maybe my laptop does not have USB 3.0.
Yet I checked with the command #lsusb, and I do get a:
Bus 003 Device 001: IS 1d6b:0003 Linux Foundation 3.0 root hub

Yet the Magewell itself, although it powers up, is not shown in qv4l2.
I made sure to plugin the Magewell into the usb port that has a "SS" icon (for "SuperSpeed"?).
And still... nothing coming up.

I wonder if it's something to do with my laptop itself.
