Question / Help How to Fix my Audio?

Don't use the USB XLR 3.5mm combination this mic came with. The Neewer is unbearably noisy when you connect it this way.

Spend the extra 40 pounds and get yourself an Audio Interface with a real preamp and phantom power. You may also need an XLR Male to XLR Female cable. This will also future proof you when you decide to up your microphone game

The very reason I bought a USB mic instead of a 3.5 one or any other type is simply because I don't have a budget for anything else. Also it's not USB to XLR 3.5, it's USB to USB. So how can I make the audio better on this one then?

You return it and get the Neewer-700 or Neewer-800 kit which is almost identical but connects via XLR to 3.5mm and comes with a USB adapter

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Professional-Broadcasting-Microphone-Adjustable-Suspension/dp/B076HMFM2M/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1546614700&sr=1-1&keywords=neewer+800&th=1

So you can eventually get an Audio Interface to correctly power it via XLR. The microphone isn't stellar, it sounds terrible when you connect it with 3.5mm to USB, it sounds considerably better when you connect it to an actual interface. All the static/EMI, hiss get eliminated because the connection is now balanced and the noisefloor is reduced.

The only way to get rid of the noise is to use ReaFIR or Noise Suppression, both of these will destroy your voice in the process

Again, how do I improve the quality on this one. I am not a mic that requires a Phantom or anything like that.

This is what the Neewer-700 and 7000 are is supposed to sound like, as you can hear, there is no noise. For the 700 he is connected via XLR-3.5mm to USB adapter, the USB adapter is supplying 5V of Phantom Power.

On the 7000 it is using the supplied USB cable. If your Neewer 7000 doesn't sound like this then you should return it. The cable is probably shite.

Nowadays though the USB adapters are garbage and can't supply enough power, your cable is no different.

You are setting yourself up for headaches trying to eliminate noise, when you could spend a few more dollars and have no noise. It's a power issue, the mic isn't getting enough power, which forces you to boost the gain, which boosts the noisefloor, makes the mic sound like ass.

I know how my mic can sound like, I looked at reviews of it before the purchase. So instead of jumping to "it has to be returned", are there any ways to make it sound better with just OBS filters and then certain Audacity effects in post?

ReaFIR, part of the ReaPlugs Suite, and OBS Noise Suppression, lots of tutorials on these. Both of these will destroy your voice and make you sound like you are underwater, but the noise will be gone.

There's also ReaJS>Stillwell>Expander and ReaGate, these will only gain reduce the noise when you aren't speaking, but the noise will still be there.

I just checked out ReaPlugs and it turns out it's a paid thing. Are there any good, free alternatives?
