Question / Help Does Hauppauge HD PVR work with OBS?

Hello! I run a YouTube channel that does console game Lets Plays, and I currently have an Elgato HD60, and it only has HDMI support.

I am looking into buying an older capture card to record older consoles that use composite and component cables. After a little bit of searching around, I found the Hauppauge HD PVR 1 Gaming Edition was the best one out there.

Since I record through OBS, I searched to see if the HD PVR 1 was supported with OBS. I found a very good thread started in 2012 about someone complaining Hauppauge was not supported. Jim, a developer of OBS, saw the post and the thread was continually updated, until they released a fix that supported Hauppauge's HD PVRs around 2015-16ish.

This seemed to work perfectly well with Hauppauge HD PVR 2, but several people posted that audio (and in some cases, video) doesn't work with the Hauppauge HD PVR 1. The issue here is that an HD PVR 2 would be useless to me, as it only supports HDMI, and I already have the Elgato HD60 for that. And the devs never got back to the people with the HD PVR 1 issues.

I obviously don't want to shell out $200 for the Hauppauge HD DVR 1 if it doesn't work with the things I need it to work with. So, does the Hauppauge HD PVR 1 work with OBS? And even if it does work with OBS, is there a better option out there for recording consoles with composite and component cables? (Anything that's within $200 hopefully)
