Since its inception in 2014, VRChat has remained a key player in VR gaming and entertainment. Outlasting many early VR projects, it notably predated the Metaverse trend by over five years and continues to grow in popularity. This success can be attributed to its regular updates, the extensive use of gadgets and trackers for enhanced avatar expression, and its deep customization options. VRChat stands out as a prime platform for users to digitally convey their voices, emotions, and movements, continually evolving to offer new ways of virtual interaction.

There are applications available that allow you to integrate your real-time heart rate with your avatar in VR, adding a new level of immersion. To use this feature, you'll need a compatible heart rate monitor. This technology bridges the gap between the physical and virtual, making your avatar's expressions more dynamic and realistic.

So yeah, as was stated before the idea is pretty straightforward: put a compatible heart rate monitoring device on, perform the initial configuration, and have your heart rate showcased in VRChat. Now let's talk more about the MagicChatbox setup process itself.

Initial configuration

Check the official documentation to get all the latest info.
To install the MagicChatbox app itself:
1. Download the zip file here or get it on the latest MagicChatbox release on GitHub
2. Right-click and choose the option 'extract all'
3. Make sure you have .NET 6 installed 4. Run the file 'MagicChatbox.exe'

Now let's move on to another way to add heart rate to your avatar. HRtoVRCHAT_OSC tool is also a great choice for this. Let's talk more about how to set it up.

Initial configuration

We recommend following the official developer documentation to make sure you have the most up-to-date info.
1. You’ll probably need a UI Helper. Although it is not vital to set everything up, it will simplify the process significantly. Just download the HRtoVRChat_OSC_UI.zip from the Latest Release
2. After unpacking archive to the directory go to Updates and hit Update Software (after the update is finished refresh the app and make sure that the Installed and Latest visions match)
3. In the Program tab click Start the app and wait for it to close
4. In the Config tab you can change any values you’d like

3. OyasumiVR

To support heart rate based automations, OyasumiVR integrates with the online heart rate service Pulsoid. For this you can use any hardware that Pulsoid supports, like bluetooth heartrate monitors, WearOS smartwatches, or Apple Watches.

From now on Apple Watches are natively supported by Pulsoid. Download Pulsoid iOS app, grab your WatchOS device, log in and you are good to go. Start showing your heart rate on Twitch, YouTube, Trovo, and Facebook live stream within a minute. Easily configure any of 60+ unique widgets on the Configuration page and add them as a Browser source into OBS, Streamlabs Desktop, Twitch Studio, XSplit
or other broadcasting software.

How to start streaming with Apple Watch?

- Install a free Pulsoid iOS app

- Create an account on pulsoid.net

- Login in the mobile app and open Pulsoid on your Apple Watch to start measuring

- Visit the Configuration page to set up your widgets

- Add widget URL in OBS as a Browser Source

Are you looking for better quality?

Apple Watch measures heart rate once in 5 seconds, which may degrade the whole experience. We do not recommend purchasing an Apple Watch for heart rate streaming and we still strongly recommend using a dedicated heart rate monitoring belt or armband for better, more accurate results. This Apple Watch update may be an excellent way for you to try all of Pulsoid's capabilities with a device you already have and upgrade to a dedicated heartbeat monitoring device later.

Your voice changes depending on your emotions all the time: slight changes in tone tell people around you if you are angry or scared, confident or nervous. It trembles, switches tone and volume, etc. But do you know what it won’t do? It won’t make you sound like a literal baby when you are terrified from a jump scare in Resident Evil or a robot when you are completely unbothered. Well, at least it was this way before our Pulsoid x Voicemod integration.

Here’s how to set everything up:

Chances are you have a Pulsoid heart rate widget set up already, if not check out this article 'How To Add Real Heart Rate To Your Stream'

If you don’t have a heart rate monitoring device here’s a guide on how to pick the right one for you Heart rate monitor for streaming

- Open the Integrations tab, find Voicemod in the marketplace and add it to your list.

- Click 'Configure' next to the Integration to set up and launch it. This integration works locally so you’ll need to have the Voicemod configuration tab open while using the integration.

- Configure your integration:

  1. Make sure Voicemod is launched and the status is 'connected' on the integration page. This step is important for integration to work and get all available voices for ranges
  2. Choose a default voice to use once your heart rate is outside of all other configured ranges.
  3. Change existing heart rate ranges (edit from-to bpm values, choose a certain voice profile, or a random one) or remove any. You can click 'Trigger' to check how you will sound when your heart rate is in the given range.
  4. Add new ranges by clicking '+'
  5. Click 'Update' to make changes live

A real-time graph is one of the favorite widgets for Pulsoid users because it shows a dynamic and gives a better understanding of how your heart rate changes during a live stream. We've launched our first graph widget back in 2020 and it's time to upgrade it.

What's new in the graph?

New design settings include:
- graph area filling color: one color, blue-red gradient, none
- graph area filling style: solid or gradual transparency
- line strength

New settings include:
- graph duration: 1,5,10,15 minutes
- hide BPM if you want to focus on dynamic

You see, heart rate monitors are great: their data flow is accurate and almost instant, they are very low-key and you may even forget that you are wearing one sometimes. But they also may not be as informative as you want. It’s nice for active sports where all gear you wear should let you forget about it as much as possible but for streamers, who have to manage their whole layout, a bit more feedback and control would be quite helpful: it’s hard to argue that being reminded if your heart rate monitor is off and seeing what is your heart rate on the spot is nice. Stream Deck is such a popular product and chances are you already own one. So why not get the best from it with this new Pulsoid plugin?1649695828782.png

VTubing is a world where creative freedom strives. You can quite literally create your avatar from scratch to better fit your personality. Unfortunately, though, some ways of expression are sacrificed in the process. Human emotions manifest themselves in very complex ways and not all of them can be conveyed to their fullest extent with only face or body tracking and manual tweaks to the avatars’ appearance.

Heart rate detection has been a staple in Vtubers’ toolboxes for a while. We are really grateful for all the members of this community who are willing to go an extra mile to better express their emotions via their avatars and outlays. And we are not the only ones who are interested. Skeletom (Tom Farro) released a plugin for VTube Studio that allows your heart rate to impact the looks and animations of your avatar.

Pulsoid can now be connected to Lumia Stream and it will allow your heart rate to interact directly with many aspects of your stream. This includes, but is not limited to TTS, chatbot messages, OBS changes, audio; But most importantly, it’ll make it possible for your lighting to respond directly to the changes of your heartbeat. Imagine your whole room turning red after a jump scare in a horror game. Or your lights pulsing faster and faster in the heat of a team fight. Or even having your lights beat to the same rate as your heart. That sounds spectacular in our book.
